My name is David Niedergeses. I am a doctoral student in Human Computer Interaction from the Rhetoric and Professional Communication program at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
In short, I want to help make technology work better for professional people doing practical things.
I am interested in collaborative and social software—especially how social and technological systems develop together. The current buzz is that social software offers a revolutionary means to let people reorganize themselves around their own needs and, thus, be more productive and successful. I’m trying to observe that phenomenon, and hopefully help bring it about in practice.
My doctoral work is the product of a mixed background of social sciences, humanities, and engineering. That mixture has pushed me to learn many approaches to research and many technical skills as well. Aside from research, a big portion of my support comes from teaching writing and technical/professional communication, which I enjoy greatly.
